Finding moisture with an infrared thermal camera

January 5, 2020

We use infrared thermography on all home inspections. They help to find elevated moisture levels in areas such as walls and ceilings. They do not see-through-walls, but can aid us in finding areas were there may be moisture or water intrusion, which will then require further evaluation to locate and mitigate the source of the moisture.

Left unnoticed, elevated moisture can cause water intrusion damage to the structure and interior finishes, which can become costly to correct. It can also allow the growth of mold, which can cause health issues. Mold can start to grow in as little as 48 hours.

Any areas that are moist, which should not be moist, should be looked at as soon as possible in order to avoid a much larger issue down the road.
