Polybutylene piping
Polybutylene was a plastic piping that was manufactured and installed in over 9 million homes between 1978 to mid-1995. It was used because it was inexpensive and easy to install. The problems arose when the connection points failed causing water to leak and resulting in major structural damages. If your home was built during that time period it would be wise to have your home inspected for the presence of polybutylene. Many insurance companies will not insure a home with this piping. At a recent inspection, I found polybutylene piping in the attic. Needless to say it will play a major role in the real estate transaction.
